Tell me about Speed Canards…

At Oshkosh this year, I was stunned to find 3 Speed Canards parked in a row. In all my research while deciding what to build, I had never come across this model. I understand it is German. Is it a kit, plans or only factory certified? I LOVE the cockpit seating arrangement, which is what I noticed as a huge advantage over any of the Rutan designs or derivatives. I am 6′2 220lbs, so the "cozyness" of the Long EZ, Cozy and others kept me from going the canard route.

One thing that was very interesting about the Speed Canard was the root end of the airfoil. It seemed to have some design-in anti-hedral or other deformity that was hard to get a grasp on. A sort of "bulbousness" where it joined the strakes.
